About this design
A compact two-piece PETG case for the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B. The lid snaps onto the base with a 3mm locating lip and two snap catches, so you can open it without tools. Pick one of five lids: vented, closed, GPIO slot, ribbon, or 30mm fan. All lids fit the same base, and an optional plate mounts the case on a VESA 75/100 monitor or a wall.
Designed from the official Raspberry Pi 4 Model B mechanical drawing, in the same style as my Pi 3B, Pi 5 and Pi Zero 2 W cases.
Features
- 2mm walls, soft 4mm corners and four printed standoffs on the board's 58 x 49mm mounting pattern
- Every port is open: USB-C power, both micro HDMI, the audio jack, 2 x USB 3 and 2 x USB 2, Gigabit Ethernet, and the microSD card (with a finger recess)
- The USB, Ethernet and audio openings are open slots, so the board drops straight in. The lid's tongues close the tops of the slots.
- Prints in PETG with no supports. All files are already in print orientation.
Lid options
- Vented lid: 7 slots over the SoC
- Closed lid: plain top, for dusty places or light loads
- GPIO slot lid: vented, plus a 56 x 6mm slot over the 40-pin header for a ribbon cable or jumper wires
- Ribbon lid: vented, with two 18 x 4mm round-ended slots over the camera (CSI) and display (DSI) connectors, for 15 or 16mm flat ribbons. Fit the ribbon to the board first, then thread it through the slot as you lower the lid.
- 30mm fan lid: grille and four M3 screw bosses for a 30 x 30mm 5V fan (24mm hole spacing), plus a small pass-through for the fan wires. Recommended for sustained load.
Parts (PETG, weight and time from PrusaSlicer with the settings below)
- pi4_base: 24.4g, 2h22
- pi4_lid_vent: 11.8g, 1h21
- pi4_lid_closed: 12.1g, 1h22

- pi4_plate (optional VESA and wall plate): 25.0g, 2h43
Print the base and one lid (about 36g and 3.7 hours for a typical case). Each part comes as a print-oriented STL and 3MF.
Hardware
- 4 x M2.5 x 5mm screws (recommended), self-tapping into the printed standoffs (2.2mm pilots). Don't use screws longer than 5mm because they bottom out in the pilot holes.
- Fan lid: one 30 x 30 x 10mm 5V fan and 4 x M3 x 12 to 14mm screws (most fans include them). Red to GPIO pin 4 (5V), black to pin 6 (GND).
- Mount plate: 4 x M3 x 6mm countersunk screws into the base floor bosses, and 4 x M4 x 10mm screws for a VESA 75 or VESA 100 mount. On a wall, use the same holes with wood screws and wall plugs.
Assembly
- Take the microSD card out, then lower the Pi straight down into the base with the ports towards the USB, Ethernet and audio side.
- Screw the board to the four standoffs with the M2.5 x 5 screws. Snug only.
- Fan lid: screw the fan on with the label down so it blows into the case, route the wires through the small slot and plug them onto pins 4 and 6.
- Press the lid down until both catches click. To open it, squeeze the long sides near the catches and lift.
- Mount plate: screw the plate to the bottom of the base with the M3 countersunk screws, then fix the plate to the monitor or wall.
Port openings leave about 0.5mm around typical plugs (USB-C overmold up to 12 x 6.5mm, micro HDMI up to 11 x 7.5mm, 3.5mm plug up to 7mm). Very bulky right-angle or oversized cables may not fit.
Fit note: the display ribbon slot position and the USB-A and RJ45 plug depth haven't been checked on a real print yet, so check the fit first, for example by printing a lid or the base before the rest.

Print notes
- Material: PETG (PLA works for a desk case, but PETG copes better with the Pi 4's heat) - Nozzle 0.4mm, layer height 0.2mm - Walls: 3 perimeters - Infill: 15% gyroid - Supports: none, no brim. Files are already oriented: base floor down, lids top face down, plate flat. - Enable bridging. The longest bridges are the port and microSD openings (up to 16mm). - Elephant's foot compensation 0.2mm recommended (the bottom edges have a 0.4mm chamfer). - Hardware: 4 x M2.5 x 5mm screws (self-tapping). Fan lid: 30mm 5V fan and 4 x M3 x 12 to 14mm screws. Plate: 4 x M3 x 6mm countersunk and 4 x M4 x 10mm screws.
