About this design
A small open two-seat roadster at 1:64 die-cast scale. The body is one piece and sits on a separate rolling chassis, held by two keyed posts. It pushes straight on and pulls straight off, so other bodies made for the same chassis can swap on later.
- About 72 x 32 x 19 mm, with a 44 mm wheelbase.
- Prints in PLA on a 0.4 mm nozzle with no supports, single colour, from one ready plate.
- Classic 5-spoke wheels: a solid disc with five spoke-shaped pockets, 11 mm at the front and 12 mm at the rear for a slight nose-down stance.
- Axles are two standard paperclips you supply (uncoated, about 1 mm wire), cut to 27.7 mm.
- 18.95 g and 4 h 08 min for the full car plate (PrusaSlicer estimate).
- Resin files too: every part oriented for resin, pre-supported wheels, tyre rings, rim cores and shim, and two sliced Prusa SL1S plates (full car 27.6 ml, about 87 min).
An adult does the wire cutting and drilling, and needs a pin vise with 1.2 mm and 0.9 mm drills, pliers, wire cutters and a file. The guide walks through straightening the wire, cutting it to length, drilling the axle holes and setting the side play with the printed shim.
Also in the download: optional tyre rings and rim cores for two-colour wheels, with their own plates (print B1 and B2 one after the other, or plate B on a multi-material printer). The guide covers the optional ballast bay too, though this car doesn't need it.
Resin needs extra steps, all in the guide: use a tough or ABS-like resin, drill and open the axle holes after curing, sand the post ribs (or print the chassis in PLA) and glue the wheels. The body and chassis have no pre-supported file, so add supports in your slicer or use the SL1S plate.
CAD-checked, not print-tested: the body, chassis and wheels were checked together in CAD (about 1.1 mm wheel clearance, all four tyres on the ground), and grams, times and resin volumes are slicer estimates.
For ages 8 and up once built. Small parts: not for children under 3.
Print notes
- Easiest: open plate A (print-files/plates-fdm/r1_kit_A_full_car.3mf) in PrusaSlicer. Whole car, 18.95 g, 4 h 08 min, 4 mm brim on the body only, no supports. - Two-colour wheels: plates B1 (tyre rings, 0.91 g, 15 min) and B2 (rim cores, 1.96 g, 36 min). Plate B for multi-material printers is 12.76 g, of which 9.63 g is purge tower. - PLA, 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.12 mm layers (0.16 mm first layer), 3 perimeters, no supports. - Body: upright, rim down as supplied, 7 top / 5 bottom layers, 15% gyroid, 4 mm brim. 12.95 g, about 2 h 35 min. - Chassis: floor down as supplied, 15% infill, no brim. 3.24 g, about 45 min. - Wheels: inner face down, 100% infill; print all four together or use a 2 mm brim. 11 mm front 0.58 g each, 12 mm rear 0.78 g each. - Play shim: flat, 0.06 g. Used during assembly, then removed. - Axles: two standard uncoated paperclips, measured with a ruler and cut to 27.7 mm (27.4 to 28.0). Adult drills the axle blocks 1.2 mm with a pin vise; ream a tight wheel bore 0.9 mm. - Body fits nose forward only: push straight down, pull straight up. - Resin: tough or ABS-like resin, XY scale calibrated, 0.05 mm layers. After full cure drill the chassis holes 1.2 mm, open the wheel bores 0.9 then about 0.95 mm and glue the wire (never force it). Sand the post ribs about 0.15 to 0.2 mm, or print the chassis in PLA. Sand and glue rim cores into tyre rings. Drain and vent the two hidden body pockets. Body and chassis: add supports in your slicer. - Resin SL1S plates: full car 27.6 ml / 30.3 g / 87 min; two-colour wheels 4.5 ml / 4.9 g / 28 min. - CAD-checked, not print-tested.
